The government has approved rules for state-supported rental housing.

The government has approved rules for state-supported rental housing. It has clarified the conditions for those who apply for it. The aim is to allocate the available properties more quickly and simply. People with higher earnings will end up at the bottom of the waiting list.

An applicant is entitled to state-supported rental housing if their minimum income is higher than the rent for the flat excluding energy costs.

“Income must not exceed €2,200 per month, and such an applicant must not own any property,” explained real estate analyst Viktor Obtulovič.

“The decision-making process will be simplified and speeded up. As a result, flats will be allocated more quickly. The aim is to make housing more affordable and fairer for everyone who really needs it,” said Petra Poláčiková, spokesperson for the Slovak Ministry of Transport.

“At the beginning of next year, one development company should start building such flats and deliver 500 of these properties. A second company should provide existing properties for this purpose,” Obtulovič continued.
