Housing construction in Slovakia has slowed down. The numbers of units started, under construction and completed in the third quarter were all lower than in the same period last year. In total, more than 4,230 flats were approved for occupancy, the lowest figure since the first quarter of 2022.
The decline in the construction of new properties has resulted in the best period for the rental market. There is talk of a historically low number of flats available to rent. Wilusa property analyst Viktor Obtulovič said this in an interview with RTVS.
“The average rent for property in the Bratislava region is around €1,000. That is an increase of more than 13% compared with last year, so rents there are rising. This has been caused partly by the influx of refugees from Ukraine, but at the moment mainly by the unaffordability of housing,” the analyst explained.
RTVS presenter Iveta Vanková talked to Wilusa analyst Viktor Obtulovič about the current situation in housing construction, rentals and housing affordability on the programme Aktuálne :24:
